Gas Lawn Mowers

Gas lawn mowers, particularly rotary types, account for the majority of lawn mowers being used in the country today and has maintained the lead position for decades. Recently, though this has taken a slight turn due the rising gas and oil prices across the nation. It has led to the inevitable debate of an electic versus the gas mower. Is it more economical? Which is more energy efficient? These and more questions surround the issue and are part of what may determine whether gas lawn mowers continue their widespread usage.

The gas lawn mower was the first viable model of mechanical lawn mower to be offered as a replacement for traditional manual reel push mowers. The first models were in essence gas powered reel lawn mowers. For a time the gas powered reel lawn mower was the only blade configuration available. Then the rotary blade system was developed and subsequently replaced reel mowers as the primary type being used. But this wasn't the end of the gas powered reel mower.

Today, there are several models of gas powered reel lawn mower offered by mower manufacturers like Walker, Honda, as well as Craftsman with its signature Craftsman gas reel mower.

So what is the best gas lawn mower? Now this question concerns not only whether you use a rotary or reel blade system but also if you need a push mower or a riding mower. Also, what sort of applications do you have in mind for the mower? Do you intend to use the gas lawn mower in small residential yard work or larger spaces?

Depending upon you answer, it could require that you consider larger industrial gas powered push mowers or maybe just an agile ZTR lawn mower. Without taking the time to research, you may end up with the wrong mower—one that will not adequately meet you needs in a cost effective manner. If you are working within budgetary constraints this can be a very serious issue.

Moving on, you may need to know how to repair a gas lawn mower if you do not wish to pay someone else a fee to do it. Now, of the time, lawn mower motors are fairly simply systems so learning the basics may not take you long at all. Closely related to this need is having all of your mower's components in working order. (Lawn mowers gas caps may need to be replaced over time or if they are damaged in some way. Your lawn mower gas tank should be inspected for leaks periodically.)

As a last point, to compensate for the exorbitant gas prices, you may have to research lawn mower gas saving devices.
