Flower Pots

Do you want to liven up your yard, bring some color and vitality to your patio? If so, flower pots can be the perfect solution to decorating your yard, deck, patio, balcony, window shelf or even the interior of your home. A flower pot is simply a plant container used to house a flowering plant. They come in all variety of shapes, sizes, materials, and colors. Depending upon the desired effect of your decorating needs, the possibilities are nearly endless.

If space is limited, such as on a small balcony setting, miniature flower pots may be a good selection. Keep in mind however, that small flower pots should only be used for growing plants that will survive in a small container. If the plant's root system becomes too crowded, it can be fatal and your flower garden will not thrive.

The material of your flowerpot selections will also be important. What type of flower pot you use will help determine such things as what flowers will grow best, and how often you will need to water your flowers. Clay flower pots are a popular choice, but will tend to dry out faster than plastic flower pots, for example, since unglazed clay pots allow water to evaporate faster. Glazed clay flower pots, ceramic flower pots, and plastic flower pots will retain moisture longer. It may also be a good idea to place each flower pot on top of a plate or dish. This will allow excess water from the soil to flow out of the drainage holes in the bottom of the flower pots and accumulate on the dish. The plant's root system can then access that water as needed, but the soil will not be oversaturated leading to root rot, a condition in which excess water causes the roots to be unable to get the air they need, and is fatal to the plant.

It may be fun to engage in flower pot crafts, turning one hobby into two! You could use hand painted flower pots, and let your imagination run wild by painting designs on clay flower pots, a ceramic flower pot, or small terracotta flower pots. You could also spend many hours knitting or crocheting a flower pot cover! By combining two or more hobbies, the simple decision to maintain a flower pot display in your decorating scheme can lead to many hours of enriching creativity and add charm and beauty to your deck, patio, balcony or yard.
