Hoses

The garden hose is a gardener's best friend. Watering one's garden becomes a breeze with the proper garden hose and attachments. There are many different kinds of water hoses, hose reels, and nozzle attachments to choose from. Depending on the size of your garden, the distance of your garden from the nearest water faucet, and the types of plants in one's garden, you can determine what the best garden hose and reel are for your needs. For a job requiring high pressure, you might also consider a hose pump to increase the water pressure generated by your hose.

Hoses are available for purchase at home and garden supply stores, department stores, hardware stores, online, and via specialty catalog retailers. Hoses of varying length are available, so be sure to plan on a hose that is appropriate for your garden. Typical rubber hose lengths available are in 25 ft. variations, 25 ft., 50 ft., 75 ft., and 100 ft.

Hose clamps are devices used to attach and seal a hose onto a fitting such as a hose barb or nib. One of the fundamental goals of most hose clamps is to ensure a tight seal between the hose and the barb, preventing the working fluid from escaping. To this end, they are designed to provide even pressure on all sides, with no gaps. To ensure a good seal, the barb must be smooth and free of nicks, scratches, or contamination. Stuck hoses should never be removed by slitting them, as this can leave a scratch on the barb which will cause a leak.

The other goal of a hose clamp is to provide mechanical attachment, to keep the hose from coming off the barb. To do this, they are typically placed behind a raised part of the barb, such that if the clamp does not slide on the hose, the clamp would have to expand to fit over the raised part, thus preventing the hose from being removed.

One kind of a hose clamp is that of spring hose clamps. Clamps of this design are rarely used for high pressure hoses or large hoses, as they would require unwieldy amounts of steel to generate enough clamping force, and be impossible to work with using just hand tools.

As a final note, keep in mind that a rapid reel gh164-pd perpendicular wall hose reel for your garden could be jus the thing you need to keep your hose stowed safely when not in use.
